Over 90% of Facebook users have Flash Player 9 Installed
Thu, 11/01/2007 - 17:29
The Facebook platform status feed says that Facebook is now requiring that all users have a minimum version of Flash. According to the developer wiki, "Facebook requires Flash version 9.0.0 for all <fb:swf> tags." While this change just went into effect last night, apparently most users already had the latest version. According to the message: "Over 90% of users already have the latest version of Flash." This is great news for Flex developers working with Facebook since we can assume everyone has Flash player 9 installed and if they don't then Facebook makes it really easy for them to upgrade. I wonder how soon this will change to Silverlight X.X given the recent Microsoft <-> Facebook advertising venture?

Very good point Ian. This might be what microsoft needs to really make silverlight take off.

Microsoft has been doing some interesting things when it comes to pushing Silverlight (The Halo 3 launch being a good example), but I can't really see Facebook forcing people to use it for quite some time until the install base is much more established.

Hey there, I have a prob. in Facebook, whereby, once I try to listen to some song/video under a certain application, an icon appears preventing me from watching the song/video and requiring to download the latest version of Flash. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance,
