Connect to Drupal from A Deskop Application
Sat, 01/12/2008 - 19:55
I just finished watching a great screencast created by Rob Loach that walks through the process of building a desktop application which connects and interacts with data from a remote Drupal web site. He uses Visual Studio.NET with C# in this tutorial and demonstrates how to load and save a node to Drupal using XMLRPC and the Drupal Services Module. Check out his screencast here (about 25 minutes long) If you are looking for other ways of building a desktop application that can connect to your Drupal installation, you might want to consider using Adobe AIR. It is very easy to connect to Drupal using Flex and the AIR runtime lets you deploy those Flex applications to the desktop. See the Drupal Services Handbook for tutorials on how to connect Flex with Drupal. Comments

I am really weary of moving to flex. Can the same thing be done with Flash CS3, or do I HAVE to use flex...?

You don't have to use Flex to connect to Drupal or create Adobe AIR applications. Adobe Labs has an update for Flash CS3 that will allow you to build Adobe AIR applications from within Flash. See this page of the Drupal Handbook about connecting to Drupal from Flash. Post new comment |
